Patriots release Tight End Michael Williams

The Patriots released tight end Michael Williams, the team announced.

Williams tore his ACL during the team’s 7-7 drill during minicamp, if he clears waivers, he will land on Patriots IR.

Williams was used as a blocking tight end for the Patriots last season after they made the trade for the 25 year old from the Lions.

Williams converted from tight end to OT during his short time with the Lions in 2014 on the team’s practice squad.
