Lions Vs Patriots: 3 Players To Watch

The Lions play the Patriots at noon on Sunday, and it’s a big game. It’s not nearly as big as the Colts game, but still a big game as the Pats can distance themselves even further with a win in the AFC race.

This matchup is very interesting because the number one defense of the Lions will be facing one of the hottest offenses in the NFL right now. The Lions defense has handled every team they’ve faced, including the Packers, granted that was before the Packers got red hot, still this defense is scary good.

Here are the 3 players that need to bring their best to beat the Lions.

1. CB Darrelle Revis: I’m not sure who Revis will cover, maybe Johnson, maybe Tate. If he’s on Tate he can easily shut him down and take out the Lions offense if Browner can stop Johnson. He might be on Johnson which will provide a great matchup and if he takes him out, hopefully Browner or whoever is on Tate will shut him down. Take those two out, you’ve effectively shut down the offense. I think that Revis will be on Johnson because Patrick Peterson was and had success, and Revis has experience with bigger wide outs like AJ Green and Brandon Marshall. Both he shut down. If he’s on Johnson, and he shuts him down the Lions will struggle to score.

2. CB Brandon Browner: Okay, Browner is coming off one of his worst performances of his short career with the Pats. He was beaten a lot by TE Coby Fleener. He wasn’t awful, but he was not his usual good self. I’m not sure if he will be on Golden Tate because of Tate’s speed so I’m guessing Browner will be on the tight end. He will probably take on Eric Ebron, who has 14 catches for 125 yards and a touchdown. The Pats have had some struggles against tight ends. Logan Ryan, Kyle Arrington, Dennard, or Butler will probably be on Golden Tate, so they have to step up as well because then Stafford will be forced with the tight end and if Browner can play like he has been, he should shut that down and make life very hard for the Lions offense. If the secondary plays as well as they can against a so far mediocre Lions offense, they will win.

3. OG Dan Connolly: The entire interior line has to play great Sunday. The Lions are great at getting middle pressure with Suh and the Pats have to stop that. Connolly, Stork, and Wendell have to play their best game all season because if they can block these guys, it will be their best game and biggest feat. They will have Suh, the monster motor man, who has 4.5 sacks and DT C.J. Mosley. The tackles, Solder and Vollmer also have to keep pressure off of Brady with George Johnson and Ansah bringing the heat. The two ends have 9.5 sacks between them and they will deal with Suh from time-to-time because they move him all around. If the line protects Brady the Patriots will win and maybe win by a lot. It’s super important.
