The Patriots travel to Indianapolis to take on the Colts for the first time since 2009, when the infamous 4th and 2 play happened to the Pats. They went for it back in 2009 against Manning’s Colts and failed to convert leaving Manning only 20 yards or so to go for the winning score.

The Colts have the overall number one rank offense and the Pats have a very good passing defense. It was ranked number one and I still consider it the best one in the league, so this provides a great battle.

Here are the 3 matchups to watch.

1. TE Dwayne Allen Vs SS Patrick Chung: Allen leads the Colts in touchdowns with 7 but he doesn’t have a lot of yardage in games. He’s just the best red zone weapon they have, so the Pats have to stop him when the Colts get near the end zone. They have another tight end in Coby Fleener, who is much bigger at 6’6. He has 4 touchdowns, but more yardage than Allen. You have to account for him when he’s in the game. When they both are, hopefully New England will have a plan. I’ll say Browner will be on Fleener a lot in the game and especially in the red zone if he’s there, but whoever is on Allen, has to stop him. I believe sometimes it will be Chung and sometimes Browner, depending on where Fleener is. Either way, stopping the tight ends, especially in the red zone will be a must.

2. WR T.Y. Hilton Vs CB Alfonzo Dennard: I’m just putting his name out here. Revis will probably cover Hilton some, and he will probably shadow Wayne a lot too. I can see the Pats mixing up their coverage so often against the Colts. Either way, he’s the number one guy they have to stop. Dennard, Ryan, Butler all have the speed to stop him, but Butler is still raw, so I’d rather someone more trustworthy be tasked with stopping him on Sunday night. Whoever and whenever anyone is on him, they have to stick with him. I can see McCourty getting into this coverage as well, providing the safety help.

3. DE Cory Redding Vs RG Ryan Wendell: Redding is a dangerous pass rusher, he has 3 sacks on the season. The Colts get most of their rush on the QB by blitzing, so the entire Pats line better be ready to pick up the blitzes. If they can handle the blitzes then the Pats will have no problem throwing against the Colts, if they can’t, it’ll be a long night in Indy.
