Earlier this week a report from the Boston Globe came out that Aaron Dobson was benched the past two games for having a loud disagreement with OC Josh McDaniels, well today Dobson and Belichick both denied those rumors.

Belichick usually just denies such things and move on, but he released a statement about it after a reporter asked if the rumor was true. I’m guessing Belichick wanted to defend his WR and OC and also wanted to keep any distractions away from the team, 2 days from playing the Bengals.

Belichick released a statement via the denying the rumors.

“In my year and a half with Aaron Dobson, he has always been respectful to me and to the rest of the coaching staff,” Belichick’s statement read. “He has never once been argumentative or confrontational. The suggestion and reporting that his playing time was in any way the result of a ‘loud disagreement’ with a coach is completely false.”

Belichick also said the reasoning behind Dobson missing 3 out of 4 games this season had to do with football reasons and not disciplinary reasons.

This means 1 of 3 things, either they’re lying and it was disciplinary, or it has to do with Dobson still not being 100% after having foot surgery during the off-season, or it has to do with Belichick and McDaniels thinking Dobson would not help the offense. I’ll go with number 2 that Dobson is not fully healthy, regardless the Pats need a spark on offense.

Aaron Dobson was also asked about the rumor and he denied it as well. He was also appreciative of Belichick having his back.

It’s good,” Dobson told the Herald. “I saw the little story come out, and I went to (Belichick) immediately and talked to him. He let me know he was going to make a statement and kill the story because it was false. I’m glad he has my back. It feels good.”

Dobson said the rumor did not bother him.

“It was just a rumor,” Dobson said. “I knew it wasn’t true from the beginning, so I wasn’t paying any mind to it until it became a big story. The statement is false.”

Dobson also said he will control what he can control and feels he’s getting better everyday.

“I feel like I’m doing better,” Dobson said. “I’m trying to control what I can control, do what I can during practice, and when I get an opportunity, do what I can.”
