Patriots Vs Chiefs Preview

I’ll give my best preview and prediction for tonight’s game between the Patriots and Chiefs in Kansas City, MO.

The game will be on ESPN at 8:15 p.m. so be sure to remember that!

The Chiefs don’t have many weapons at wide out so the Patriots will want to take away the run and tight ends to put all the pressure on Alex Smith and his receivers. Doing that should help the Patriots defense out and give the Pats a chance to win.

Darrelle Revis could be on a tight end tonight if the Pats think it’s best having him on their best weapon like last season and that would be Travis Kelce, but if he’s on a WR it could be Dwyane Bowe. I don’t think it matters what wide out they put him on because he should shut them down, though the matchup with a tight end would be interesting.

Donnie Avery is the guy Smith seems to be going too, more than Bowe.  Avery has been targeted 21 times and caught 12 balls. He has 116 yards through the first three games, but no touchdowns. Dwayne Bowe missed the first game of the season, but has been targeted 12 times with 6 catches for 72 yards and no touchdowns.

Revis matches up better with Bowe thanks to the size. Bowe is 6’2 and Revis is 5’11/6′ but plays taller than his size. Avery is 5’11 but someone like Logan Ryan could easily go up against him and keep up, but, don’t be surprised if Revis takes on Avery. Kyle Arrington should be the guy on speedster Frankie Hammond.

The biggest question is who will the Pats use on the 6’5 tight end Travis Kelce? Kelce and tight end Fasano have caught 2 of the 4 Alex Smith’s touchdown passes. The other two were caught by running back Joe McKnight, who is now out. I think they will have Harmon, Chung, and/or Jamie Collins on the tight ends to slow them down tonight. How well they do is another question, but this will be an important part of the game plan for New England.

Of course, the Pats must stop the run or this other stuff doesn’t matter.

On offense the Patriots will look to Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski.

The number one thing they have to do will be protect Tom Brady and the Pats have mixed up their starters, so we will see if it helps Tom Brady out.

Tonight’s the final night some receivers have to step up for New England or I say play Brian Tyms next week.

The Pats will look to run some, but I think tonight they will go to the air to win the game. I would also love them to get Shane Vereen more involved in the game plan, which hasn’t been happening.

I think the Pats win 24 – 17.
