The Patriots practiced for the 7th time of training camp, but toned it down considerably.
Cameron Gordon, Bryan Stork, Aaron Dobson, Chris Martin, Tyler Gaffney, Michael Hoomanawanui, Jemea Thomas, Dominique Easley, Jeremy Gallon, and Deonate Skinner all absent from practice.
Matthew Slater returned to practice for the first time and Josh Boyce and Chris White returned too.
Darrelle Revis was the star of practice again. He’s been having a great camp and today was another version of what he brings to New England.
During 11-on-11 drills, the offense was on the 1 yard line and Brady tried to throw the ball to Kenbrell Thompkins, but Revis cut in front around the 5 yard line and walked into the end zone. The crowd and defense went nuts.
Revis also hit rookie RB James White hard and dropped him after he broke free.
Tom Brady spoke after practice on having Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner.
“As a quarterback you always try to find a weak link in the defense and neither of those guys are weak links.”
Tom Brady did have a good day along with Ryan Mallett, while Jimmy Garoppolo continued to struggle.
Brady went 7 – 13 in 11-on-11 drills with a pick 6 and 4-4 in 7-on-7 drills.
Ryan Mallett went 5-9 in 11-on-11s and 3-4 in 7-on-7s.
Jimmy Garoppolo went 0-4 in 7-on-7s, Justin Jones did drop a perfect pass to his hands, and Garoppolo threw a pick 6 to Malcolm Butler in 11-on-11s.
Thompkins continued to drop a few passes today along with Wilson Van Hooser, Stevan Ridley, Justin Jones, and Brandon LaFell.
Thompkins has been doing good in camp, though, drops still plague him as well as Brandon LaFell. They better work on their hands before the regular season so they don’t earn the nicknames “Dropkins, and LaDrops”.
The Patriots also prepared their defense for RG3 by running some read-option looks.
Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal broke down the results of the 1-on-1s.
“Thompkins beat Revis
Amendola beat Wilson
LaFell beat Green
Johnson beat Gary
Amendola beat Hawkins
Thompkins beat Dennard
Van Hooser beat Arrington
LaFell beat Revis
Tyms beat Green”
Brady, Gronk, and Revis worked off the side again today.
Gronk still went through the same routine today.
James Anderson has been performing great as a cover LB for New England through camp.
Stevan Ridley was stopped at the goal line by Devin McCourty today that got the defense all fired up.
The Pats will back tomorrow for practice but will have Saturday and Sunday off.
