Rex Ryan: Patriots need to worry about us

Jets head coach Rex Ryan is back to his old self. Making bold predictions that the Jets will reach the playoffs and taunting the New England Patriots.

It feels like 2009 all over again.

Recently, Rex defended himself as a head coach.

“Do I think that I‘m a great coach? I absolutely know I’m a great coach,” Ryan told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. “But it’s not just about me. What makes a great coach is the people that surround you, the people that are with you every day.”

Rex also said an 8 win season again would be a disappointment and the Jets will make the playoffs.

“I believe we’re better than that. I believe we’re a lot better than that,” Ryan told the Daily News. “Eight and eight would be a hell of a disappointment for us. I’m just telling you that I believe this team is on the cusp of doing some special things. . . . I’m confident we will be a playoff team.”

Ryan also stated he doesn’t care what other people’s expectations are.

“What they’re missing is — and this isn’t their fault — is they don’t see what I see in the building every day,” Ryan said. “I think it’s a transition year, but we’re going to bring it to another level. I know where I want this team to go and that’s where I expect this team to go. So, you know, are we a better team? Dang right. . . . That may be a fact that we’re rebuilding this team, but by no means does that mean that I don’t expect to improve on where we were.”

Ryan also went old school to throw some fuel to the Pats/Jets rivalry.

“Somebody asked me if we focus on New England. Bull—-,” Ryan told the New York Post. “We’re focused on us. We’re focused on us and how are we going to be better. I have to be honest, I don’t worry about them. They need to worry about us. I think that’s really where we’re at now.”

The Jets still have big questions on offense, and at the corner position, but you can’t tell by his confidence.
