Alabama’s head coach Nick Saban is responding to Mike Pettine’s accusations that he could have given the Jets playbook to his good friend Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots.

In an interview, Pettine claims that the Patriots had the Jets defensive playbooks and that Ryan gave one to Saban, who probably gave it to Belichick.

The exchange, supposedly took place when Ryan went to the UA campus to speak at Saban’s annual coaching clinic. The two are also friends.

An Alabama spokesman relayed Saban’s response to AL.com.

Saban has denied ever giving Belichick the Jets playbook and he never would. He also says the playbook is sitting on his desk right now.

Rex Ryan, who already expressed displeasure with his former defensive coordinator, also defended Saban.

“I don’t think that’s a fair assessment of Nick Saban, of whom Nick Saban is,” Ryan said.
