Aqib Talib Has Bigger Market This Year

Aqib Talib proved that staying out of trouble and staying a force on the defense will produce a bigger marker in a contract year.

It is amazing how staying out of trouble off the field and continuing to have success on the field will have players scoring offers from different teams. According to several reports, New England Patriots‘ cornerback Aqib Talib will have a bigger market than he did one year ago.

After being traded from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Talib seemed as if he matured and played decent but injuries kept him playing just six games in 2012. When Talib went to test free agency, he found that it would be much more beneficial to stay in New England and sign a $5 million contract for one season.

Now Talib will be a free agent again next month. This time, more teams may be interested in giving Talib a chance now that he has stayed out of trouble and has produced on the field. In 2013, Talib recorded 41 tackles, four interceptions, one forced fumble, and 14 pass break ups, which is one less than his career best.

In a radio interview, owner Robert Kraft talked about Talib’s situation.

“Well, we want to retain all the good players we can retain,” Kraft said, via Tom Curran of CSN New England.  “It’s not like we have unlimited funding so . . . He wasn’t on the field a lot of the time since he’s been with us.”

Talib has not spoke out about it, so for now it is unknown what his preference may be. The Patriots have $4,529,129 of estimated cap room according to OverTheCap.com. Will the Patriots be able to retain Talib?
