Broncos Vs Patriots: 3 Players to watch

It is almost time for the annual battle of Peyton Manning vs Tom Brady! It is happening this Sunday in primetime on NBC in Foxborough.

The Patriots are a great home team, they haven’t lost yet when playing in New England, but Sunday will be their toughest test yet, against the Denver Broncos.

How will New England beat the Broncos when the Pats are banged up a bit on defense? Well there is 3 key players for New England to keep an eye on leading up the game and during the game that could alter the outcome.

1. CB Aqib Talib

– Aqib Talib left the game late against the Panthers because his hip acted up again, but he has been practicing on a limited bases. If he plays New England has a really good shot at winning the game. I said it, a REALLY good shot. Talib stumbled a bit against a smaller, faster guy like Steve Smith, but I don’t care about that. Everybody has a bad day. Talib is still a top corner in the NFL right now and he is the key to taking away Manning’s number one guy, Demaryius Thomas. Thomas is big, fast, and athletic, giving Talib a very tough test to deal with Sunday. I believe Talib can stop him though, just like he did against Julio Jones, AJ Green, and Jimmy Graham.

I will give you the biggest reason why I believe he can take Thomas out of the picture for most of the game – physicality. The Broncos are a lot like the Saints, and New England, they are finesse. So, get physical with a finesse offense and that defense wins the battle most of the time. Talib is a big guy, and a physical player and he can pop Thomas all game long and help slow him down. He can jam Thomas at the line, throwing his routes off, and be in his face constantly, roughing him up, and he will slow the offense down. I like Talib in press coverage against Thomas and I like the entire secondary of New England against Denver in press coverage because New England and Talib will need to get physical to win.

2. WR Danny Amendola

– The offensive line for New England will need to protect Tom Brady. If Brady has time I have no doubt he will throw on the Denver defense so it is very important that New England keeps Brady off the ground. And when the line does their job the receivers need to theirs and get open fast. Danny Amendola is the key to first downs and the key to moving the chains and keeping Denver’s offense off the field for long periods of time. Amendola needs to be more of a weapon in this game and have the kind of game he did against the Steelers or the game he was having against the Bills before he suffered the injury.

A lot of eyes will be on Amendola because Welker will be in this game on the other side, and a lot pressure will be placed on Amendola and Gronkowski. Amendola has the talent and I wanna see more of it in this game when Brady will need a lot of him.

3. DT Isaac Sopoaga

– The Patriots DT will have a big task all his own on Sunday. The Pats will play 6 defensive backs most likely because of Manning and the passing attack which will leave room for Denver to run if they choose too. So, Sopoaga will need to make sure he contains the run game of Denver and not let it become a problem because Denver has enough weapons and a run game doesn’t need to be one of them. So a lot will rest on this veteran’s shoulders to stop the run game and not let it be a problem New England has to deal with. Close the holes and hit the RB hard and keep Denver from ground and pounding anytime they want during the game.
