A positive sign from Aaron Dobson

Everybody is talking about Aaron Dobson’s drops last night, and rightfully so, they were very painful to watch. He had 4 drops last and none hurt worse than the beautiful deep pass that went through his hands.

Those were bad, all bad, and Dobson also ran the wrong way when he would’ve had a wide open TD catch. Brady was visibly upset with his rookie wide receiver when he made that error and missed a TD score. Can’t blame Brady for his frustration with the receivers in the game, it wasn’t a pretty game at all. The final score was 13 – 10 in favor of New England.

Aaron Dobson did show me some positive things in the game. Dobson seem to always be open on both short and long routes. Dobson looked uncoverable and repeatedly was getting separation from any defender that was tasked with covering him. I chalk up his drops to the fact it was his first career start in the NFL, you know he had butterflies, and I believe the nerves really got to him.

Thompkins played his second game last night and showed improvements from his horrid first start in the NFL. Thompkins dropped a pass or two and was so lost on the field he collided with Julian Edelman in the Patriots win over the Bills. He didn’t get lost on the field last night and seem to have a better understanding of where to be. He did drop two passes though. Thompkins did show improvement, and I think the next game Dobson will show even more improvement than that.

Drops are going to happen sometimes, and every now and again you will have bad games, and I think this was nerves mixed with a bad game for Dobson. This is growing pains and the more games the youngster plays in the better he will get. He won’t continue to run the wrong routes, and drop passes, but he will continue to grow in the offense. By the 4th or 5th game the offense should begin to score more and start becoming the offense they will for 2013 which will be an offense capable of scoring in the 30s. Dobson looks like he could be a real playmaker for New England, or at least that is what he showed me last night. The drops are unacceptable and can’t continue, and I don’t believe they will. Once his nerves get out of the way and he gets comfortable in the system then I believe Dobson will be a be playmaker in this offense. Providing a deep threat the Patriots have been missing.

The big thing is while the Patriots are struggling and figuring out their offense, and growing up, they are still winning.

I’m looking at the positives more than the negatives in this segment.

Just be patient with the rookies and give them time to find their footing.
