Patriots Place 1st Round WR K’Neal Harry on IR; Sign Demaryius Thomas

The Patriots spent Labor Day morning reshuffling their wide receiver corps, sending first round rookie N’Keal Harry to injure reserve and signing veteran Demaryius Thomas to a one-year contract according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Harry, the No.32-overall pick in this year’s draft, has had an injury-plagued summer with ankle, hamstring, and toe issues.

He has not been a full participant in practice since injuring himself in the Patriots preseason opener and even before then was being outplayed by undrafted rookie free agent Jakobi Meyers.

Now Harry will miss at least the first six games of the regular season and could end up basically being red-shirted for the 2019 season.

The 31-year-old Thomas was a surprise roster cut on Saturday but it was always believed that the Patriots intended to bring him back.

There was some talk of his reuniting with the Broncos, where is is already the second-most decorated wideout in team history with 9,055 yards in nine seasons, but coming back to Foxboro and getting a chance at a Super Bowl ring was apparently too enticing a prospect to pass up.

Demaryius missed most of the offseason while recovering from a torn Achilles but looked sharp in his preseason debut Thursday night, nabbing seven grabs for 87 yards and two touchdowns in a loss to the Giants.
