Patriots Hoping for a Big and Healthy Second Season from RB Sony Michel

There has been some concerns about Patriots second-year running back Sony Michel after missing Patriots minicamp due to a recent knee scope, but it sounds like those concerns can be put away.

In a report from Mike Giardi of NFL Network, Michel has been running at “full tilt” as he continues to rehab from the offseason scope that set him back from being a part of the team’s mini camp.

If you look at USA online sports betting sites, you can see that having Michel ready to go and as close to 100 percent as possible will only increase the Patriots chances of winning another championship in 2019.

Michel seems to be recovering quickly. The 24-year-old has been receiving treatment at the TB12 facility in Foxboro.

The Patriots have said all along that they expect Michel back for the start of training camp and so far there’s nothing to suggest that won’t happen.

Giardi described two interdependent goals for the Patriots and Michel: “improve range of motion in the knee” and make him “a more explosive runner” in 2019.

With Tom Brady getting older, there is no doubt that having a good run game will go a long way in making the Patriots that much of a better team.

Last season the 31st-overall pick in the 2018 draft out of Georgia had a productive rookie season with 931 yards rushing and six touchdowns in 13 games.

There has always been concerns about his extensive history of knee issues, and some fans held their breath when he was not able to get to the team’s minicamp.

It would go a long way for him to be able to put those injury concerns aside if he could play an entire season.

Last season Michel had four 100-yard rushing games, with his best season being a 27-13 win over the New York Jets on November 25th in which he ran for 133 yards and a touchdown along with two catches.

Michel’s 100-yard rushing games provided success for the Patriots, as they were 4-0 as a team when he went over 100 yards.

If he can give more support and stay healthy, here’s thinking that this Patriots team can once again be the biggest force in the AFC.

Michel will get plenty of reps to be the number one back for the Patriots in training camp, but he’s got to prove that knee is 100 percent, and as long as he is healthy, he and the Pats look to be in a great spot once 2019 kicks off.
