Patriots Make Deal with Detroit to Add Linebacker Kyle Van Noy

Patriots added linebacker depth before the trade deadline Tuesday by acquiring Kyle Van Noy from the Lions, James Walker and Field Yates of ESPN report citing sources.

In exchange, Detroit will give New England its sixth-round round pick of the 2017 draft for the Patriots’ seventh-round slot, a source said.

New England, which had an open roster spot, has experienced multiple injuries at the linebacker position. Jamie Collins (hip) and Dont’a Hightower (knee) have both missed three combined games this season.

Van Noy is a former second-round pick of the Lions in 2014 who has promise but didn’t live up to his potential in Detroit.
