The Patriots escaped the desert with an upset win. Wait, what? The Patriots can still have an upset win that most people didn’t see coming? When they are without Brady and Gronk then yeah, the Patriots upsetting a team can still be a thing.
The Patriots did exactly what they wanted, minus the two turnovers on offense that led to Arizona touchdowns, last night in the win. They were safe, no call or throw was too complicated for the first game of Jimmy G’s career. Edelman, Chris Hogan, Amendola, and James White stepped up for Garoppolo, and the OL did too. LeGarrette Blount had his moments as well, so the offense really pulled their weight for the new kid behind the center. Jimmy Garoppolo had a really good night, his best throw was on the game-winning drive where he escaped pressure and ran to his left to throw a dime to Danny Amendola. Blount later on the drive would bust a 13 yard run, all setting up a Stephen Gostkowski go-ahead field goal with 3:48 to go.
The Patriots wanted it like this, to be up 23-21 was where they wanted to be. They were going to rely on their defense and win the game and that they did but not the way they thought. The defense was close to giving up the win to Arizona by not stopping Palmer to Fitzgerald much on the drive, but finally they did to force a game-winning field goal attempt from 47 yards out. The Patriots added pressure on the kick, and a bad snap resulted in a missed field goal wide left.
Jimmy Garoppolo managed this game very well and you couldn’t ask for more and in the end, ended up driving them to a game-winning field goal. The defense was good for most of the game, but that last drive makes me a little nervous. The Patriots proved so much that I believe they can beat the Dolphins and Bills and have a good chance against Houston.

The ship won’t totally wreck without Brady, but it’ll be nice to have the captain back week five.
