The Patriots signed RB Donald Brown, according to FOXSports.com’s Peter Schrager.
Brown was with the Colts from 2009 to 2013 before joining the Chargers the past two seasons.
Brown did not catch a lot of passes but when he did they usually went for a lot of yardage during his Colts’ days.
In his 7 year career with both the Colts and Chargers, Brown caught 120 passes 1,066 yards and 2 touchdowns. He rushed 695 times for 2,829 yards and 18 touchdowns. He has played in 89 games.
In 2015, Brown rushed 59 times for 229 yards and 1 touchdown in 10 games. He also caught 8 passes for 88 yards.
I can see Brown being just as good a pass-catcher as a pure running back. He can do both, he’s never been overly effective or given a ton of chance. Also, he will now be with a team where a pass-catching running back is as important as a pure running back and one who can do both will be used a lot.
He’s not a lock to make the team, but he will have his chance.
