The New England Patriots signed defensive end Chris Long on Tuesday, according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.

The deal will be for one year, a prove you can stay healthy type deal to me.

Chris Long was the Rams 2008 2nd overall draft pick. He has a big name and is a big star but injuries have hurt him and his production over the past two seasons, limiting him to just 18 games and 4 sacks.

When he’s healthy he’s a stud, and he will fit in the Patriots system, adding another talented pass rusher to the already loaded defensive end spot.

Long recorded 54.5 sacks with the Rams.

Long played in 114 games for the Rams during his 8 years in the NFL, racking up 246 tackles, 54.5 sacks, 8 FF, 5 FR, and 8 passes defended.
