The Patriots may have lost to the Dolphins and for the first time in Brady’s career, lost the final two regular season games, but they still get a much needed first round bye, even though they are the number two overall seed.

I still found two players and a unit to hand out some juicy good doughnuts to in today’s post.

1. QB Tom Brady

It wasn’t his best day, but it wasn’t his fault. He did everything he could, but a Quarterback’s kryptonite is a weak offensive line. No matter how great a QB is, no matter if they are Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning, Joe Montana, Tom Brady, or John Elway, they will under perform if they have no time to throw the football. Brady was hit over and over against a Dolphins team that was out for blood. Brady looked to be snapped in half on a low hit from Suh that shook up the QB. Brady was hobbled after the game, ankle no doubt hurting, and admitted he was sore, but he will play in two weeks and he finished that game yesterday. He deserves a doughnut for guts. He “brought his own guts” yesterday, Dabo Swinney would be proud.

2. The Run Defense

The rush defense has slowly gotten better even without Hightower, but they still need him no doubt. They did really well against Miami and the run did not beat them, well not until Tannehill took off, but Miller was held in check for most of the game. The secondary simply allowed too many big plays. The run defense should be solid heading into the postseason.

3. DL Akiem Hicks

What a game for Hicks yesterday. He was the best DL player in the game for the Patriots and on the field. I hope this was a glimpse of how he will play in the playoffs. He had 5 tackles and two stuffs. He blew up the Dolphins line constantly. He was a force.
