The Patriots will play the Jets with not much on the line except a first overall bye and a chance to eliminate the Jets from making the playoffs.
Here we go, the top three matchups to watch that are flat out interesting and important.
1. CB Malcolm Butler Vs WR Eric Decker:
Maybe the Patriots move Butler to Marshall, but this was the matchup in the first game and it almost cost the Patriots. Butler lost the battle to Decker, so this time he has to win and I believe he wants this matchup. He has to take away Decker as he’s the clear number two guy for Fitzgerald.
2. LB Jerod Mayo Vs RB Chris Ivory:
The worst thing that could happen would be Butler loses his battle and the Pats defense unable to stop RB Chris Ivory. You do not want the Jets to run the football, especially with that defense, so Mayo will be a huge key in this game if Hightower can’t play and I’m pretty sure he will not. Mayo and Collins will have to carry the run defense and force the Jets to throw.
3. CB Logan Ryan Vs WR Brandon Marshall:
He did okay against Green-Beckham but it was not a great performance and I wonder if it was because McCourty wasn’t backing him up. He will have maybe Harmon helping him, but it isn’t the same as McCourty, so Ryan better step up as Marshall is one of the hottest wide outs right now. Shutting down Marshall and Decker will all but shut down the entire Jets offense.
