The Patriots defeated the Houston Texans on Sunday Night and with that win, they hold first place in the postseason, clinched a playoff berth, and after Miami’s loss on Monday Night won the AFC East.
The Patriots have had a wonderful weekend so far, but they are still plenty of things to work on.
1. The OL:
They have to play better at some point this season. The scary thing is the starters are back, minus Nate Solder, who’s out for the season, and they are still playing awful. One thing they are missing is Julian Edelman, who is a master at getting open fast and Dion Lewis, which helped the OL out big time. I think they miss Edelman more than Tom Brady.
2. WR Brandon LaFell: A few drops on Sunday Night and didn’t fight for a deep ball. These two things continued to plague LaFell after a great season last year. He had one good catch that set up a touchdown, but other than that, he wasn’t a huge factor in the game. He hasn’t stepped up without Edelman and that’s disappointing.
3. Special Teams: It was much better than last week, but a muffed punt almost gave the Texans life in a game that was never really in doubt. Keshawn Martin was the guy at fault and promptly lost his punt returning role, such a shame since he was pretty good at that. The turnovers have to stop.
4. Injuries: Goodness the injuries have to stop! McCourty and Easley both left the game with injuries. LeGarrette Blount also left with an injury. None of the injuries are expected to be serious, which has been a blessing for the Patriots this season, but every game somebody leaves midway through.
