Monday Morning Humble Pie time after a 30-24 loss last night for the Patriots to the Denver Broncos.
Here we go, here are the players or positions that need improvement after last night.
1. The Run Defense
There isn’t a doubt in my mind the run defense would have been better if Hightower and Collins were playing last night. The Broncos had cutbacks all night and it killed the defense, they even allowed a 48 yard walk-off touchdown in OT last night. Mayo and Freeny simply can’t get it done good enough like Hightower and Collins. The linebackers were never there on the cutbacks. The depth is a problem at linebacker.
2. WR Chris Harper
Not his best game. He muffed a punt in the fourth when the Patriots had a 21-7 lead and things were looking good. The fumble set up the Broncos in good field position and they scored a touchdown. It was the start of the comeback. He also did not catch a pass. I’m not sure how much he plays moving forward, but if he gets another chance he better step up.
3. RB James White
After a two touchdown performance, he was underwhelming last night. Brandon Bolden stepped up and maybe has won the job. White went down on first contact every time he was hit and could not run the ball. He has to play better.
4. The OL
They were good for the most part and Brady had time more times than not he just didn’t have a lot of options to throw the football too, but in critical moments they either were holding and flagged or gave up the pressure on Tom Brady. The flags were 50/50 on the refs and the line. The pressure was all on the line, they were not clutch.
5. Injury Bug
The Injury bug needs some humble pie and cut it out. The Pats were without Edelman, Amendola, Lewis, and Solder already, but Hightower and Gronk both left the games with injuries. Neither looks serious, but still, this is one unhealthy team. Maybe by the playoffs we will be the most healthy team.
Eat some humble pie because you guys were not great last night!
