The Patriots are a road favorite over the Denver Broncos, but by 3 points and the way they have been playing it is a good point spread.
If the Pats are to squeak out a win against the Broncos or stomp the yard, these three players must step up.
1. WR Brandon LaFell:
He will have a tough matchup against Aqib Talib or Chris Harris Jr, my guess is Talib because of the size. It doesn’t really matter though, both are two of the best corners in the game and LaFell must find ways to win. He has to step up and provide another target for Brady especially if Amendola can’t play Sunday Night. Brady really needs LaFell in this matchup and he needs him to get open fast. If LaFell can be solid the Pats will be okay.
2. RB James White:
I think he may play a huge role in the game and add another target out of the backfield. He can help back pressure off by being the guy, Brady can get the ball out very quickly too. He looked good in limited touches Monday Night, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he begins his “Dion Lewis Role” Sunday Night. He needs to continue his hot play to help the OL out because they will need all the help they can get.
3. SS Patrick Chung
I’m thinking Chung will play corner again and Tavon Wilson will be SS again after both were effective Monday Night. Justin Coleman isn’t playing, so the Pats need another corner and after the Giants game they aren’t using Melvin Rashaan, or so it seems. This is the kind of game that could be like the Packers last year in the way the number 3 WR could do damage. The Broncos have a wide out named Cody Latimer whose 6’2 and dangerous in the red zone. He’s caught 5 passes for 52 yards and 1 touchdown in the one and half games Brock Osweiler has played. He could have a game like Davante Adams did last year against the Pats if they don’t account for him. Chung is the Pats’ best option to take on the very big and talented Latimer, so the Patriots need Chung to step up and shut him down. He can’t let a “surprise” guy beat the Patriots. The Pats could think Rashaan with his height could handle Latimer and if that’s the case, I hope he can and hope he steps up. Chung could draw Owen Daniels which is an equally huge deal as Osweiler loves throwing to his tight ends. Either which way, Chung needs a big game.
