The New England Patriots will host the Washington Redskins on Sunday at 1:00 pm EST on Fox.
The Pats will try to beat a sometimes surprising Redskins team to remain unbeaten on the season.
The Patriots are probably not doing what some reporters and writers have already done, and that’s overlooked this game and consider it a win before the game has even been played, at least I hope not. The Redskins certainly have the talent to make things interesting through the air.
The Patriots will try to stop the run, something they have been very good at the past few games, to force the Redskins to put all of the pressure on the young Kirk Cousins. That will be their number one priority, their second will be preventing deep passing plays and forcing Cousins to dink and dunk his way 80 yards every time. McCourty will provide over the top help against either Jackson or Garcon and Harmon will be another center fielder out there to prevent big plays. Butler will draw Jackson, if he plays, and Logan Ryan will use his speed to match up with Garcon. Justin Green will draw Andre Roberts, who can be dangerous, so hopefully not overlooked. This actually favors the Pats corners like last Thursday because they all match up speed and height wise very well. They will also use blitzes a lot more in this game because Cousins isn’t a runner, so look for these three things to be the focal point of the Pats defense.
The Redskins offense will try to establish the run because if they can run they will be hard to stop. Running takes the pressure off of Cousins and it will allow the Redskins to do a lot of play action and roll outs which is a bread and butter of the team.
The Patriots on offense will look to pass their way to another victory. The Redskins have been troubled by the run the past few games, but I just don’t see the Pats staying away from the pass very often in this game. They have to protect Brady from the blitzes, so again look for quick passes and runs early to back the pressure off. Edelman and Gronk may have big days, but especially Edelman and Lewis underneath the coverage. The blitzes will open up huge holes for the Patriots wide outs, so look for that.
The Redskins defense will try to pressure Brady because that’s really their only chance at stopping the Pats offense.
There you have, a quick preview of tomorrow’s game plan.
