The Jets and the Patriots will place for first place in the East tomorrow inside of Gillette Stadium, where the Pats will have home field advantage.
It will be the number one defense of the Jets going against the number two offense of the Patriots on paper, actually number one of the eye test, but still it’s a big time matchup for each squad. It’s Darrelle Revis Vs Tom Brady, Chris Ivory Vs the Pats DL, Brandon Marshall Vs Malcolm Butler, and so many other interesting storylines that make up this game.
The Jets have one loss and the Pats have zero, but as great as it would be to win this game, it isn’t as important considering it’s early in the season, so whoever loses, still have a lot in front of them, concerning the division and the postseason. However, what an awesome early season game.
The Jets will not change the way they play on offense. They will try to run and continue that all game unless they get behind by more than 10 points. They will also look for the deep plays no matter what, even if they aren’t there.
The Patriots on defense will focus on stopping Chris Ivory, the best offensive player on the Jets team. The Pats always aim to take away your number one guy, well that is RB Chris Ivory, so the focus will be on him. They must stop the run to win this game. The defense will try to force Ryan Fitzpatrick to win the game. They will try to take away the deep passes and make Fitzpatrick drive 80 yards every time with short passes, which means for a guy throwing at least one interception every game this season, he will have to be almost perfect in order to do so. It takes a great QB to do that, something he’s not, so that will be the Pats defensive plan. .
The Jets on defense will do what they always do, play fast, loose, and confident. They will blitz a lot and rely on their secondary to give their pass rushers enough time to get to Brady. They will double up Gronk and man coverage the rest of the Patriots wide out. The most interesting thing will be to see who is on Edelman and man do I hope it’s Revis. If it is, that will be one fun and interesting matchup to see.
The Patriots on offense will go to quick, short passes to counter the aggressive Jets. They will use Dion Lewis a lot in this game because of the weakness at linebacker for the Jets in coverage. They will concentrate on throwing a lot of passes over the middle of the field rather than testing the Jets vertically. I don’t expect the Pats to run too much in this game, considering how good the Jets run defense is, but I expect a few key runs placed throughout the game. But, look for a lot of short, quick, easy passes over the middle and dump offs to the running back. The Pats will take a move the ball methodically approach.
