The Patriots go from beating one rival to hosting another one on Sunday afternoon. The Jets will be coming to town with only one loss, setting the stage for a big showdown in the East.
The Jets are a tough team on offense and defense this year. They play solid defense while their offense is more of a smash mouth offense, leaning on the run to win games. Think Dallas Cowboys here, just better at the current moment.
So, with that in mind, here are the three most important players to watch on Sunday, that could help the Pats win the game if they have a big day.
1. DT Sealver Siliga
He and the other defensive tackle’s will be the most important players on defense when the Pats line up against the Jets. RB Chris Ivory is having a great season and he’s the reason the offense gets going and wins game. He’s also the reason passes open up to those big wide receivers on the outside, so he’s the number one guy the Pats have to stop. Siliga had a good game against Dallas to keep their run in check, and he needs to have another one this Sunday if the Pats want to win.
2. OL Sebastian Vollmer
He’s the best offensive lineman on the field for New England, especially without Nate Solder. David Andrews and Bryan Stork are two other great linemen for the Pats, they just happen to play the same position. Vollmer will be huge because if he can lock down his side of the field, whether that’s Brady’s blind spot or the right side, it will be huge for the Pats. Brady will pass and pass successfully on that defense if he’s standing up, but he can’t do that if he’s under constant pressure. Vollmer needs a great game, and so does the entire line.
3. C David Andrews
He’s been great this season and he’s just a rookie. He has to be good on Sunday going against maybe his toughest test of the season in the Jets DL. Damon Harrison will be lined up over Andrews a lot in this game, so it will be huge and very important to not allow up the middle pressure on Tom Brady. Brady can move around the pocket and scramble a little to help his line out, but he can’t do that if the pressure is straight up the gut and in his face. So, the center play and guard play will be huge.
