Here. We. Go.
Finally, the game, the matchup, and the revenge we have been waiting all season for is finally here! The Patriots will play the Colts for the first time since opening up a can of blowout on them during the January, 18th AFC Championship Game. The aftermath, the never-ending deflategate scandal that the Colts brought on, will be avenged, at least everyone in Boston and Pats fans around the world hopes it will be avenged.
To make sure that happens, here are the 3 players for the Patriots that will play a big part in the win or loss.
1. SS Patrick Chung
He might be tasked with covering the Colts tight ends during the game, which will be very important. Depending on who is under center for the Colts, depends on which tight end is the bigger threat. Luck throws to Dwayne Allen a lot more than Fleener while Hasselbeck throws to Fleener a lot more than Luck. Fleener gave the Pats fits during the regular season game last year while doing nothing in the postseason against the Patriots. The Colts have a lot of weapons so making sure they don’t kill the defense with the tight ends will be huge. Collins is the perfect matchup for Allen, a big tight end whose slow, while Chung will handle Fleener, a huge guy with some speed. I can imagine the Pats trying to keep a box around Fleener. Chung will be important in this game.
2. CB Malcolm Butler
He will line up against 6’2 Donte Moncrief on Sunday night and since I’m assuming he will be on an island with the tall, breakout star WR, he better bring his A game, especially if Luck is playing. Logan Ryan and Devin McCourty will probably handle T.Y. Hilton while Tarell Brown takes on Andre Johnson. Justin Coleman will probably draw coverage against the rookie Phillip Dorsett. Of course, the coverages will change unless the Colts want to stick these five out there with no tight ends. Regardless, Moncrief must be stopped for the Patriots on defense and Butler is the guy for the job. Butler better bring his A game.
3. OT Marcus Cannon
He will be the guy protecting Tom Brady’s blind slide from here on out, so what a wonderful test for him for a full game than the Colts defense. The Colts are not the best at sacking the QB nor playing defense, but Cannon still has to play well because if you keep Brady standing up, he will score.
