We are only a few days away from the Patriots being back on the field and back on our television.
They will take on the Dallas Cowboys, and I’ll be honest, I was really looking forward to this one before the season, but now without Tony Romo and Dez Bryant a little excitement has been sucked out of the game. It is still a huge game and it will still be fun to watch the Patriots beat the Cowboys, hopefully.
Here are the main matchups that will be crucial for the Pats on Sunday.
1. CB Malcolm Butler Vs WR Terrance Williams:
Butler’s match up for the game is easier than matching up with Dez Bryant but it would have been a wonderful test for the 2nd year corner. Instead, he will go head-to-head with the 6’2, 208 pound wide receiver, who deserves respect. Williams will provide the height mismatch for Butler, whose been able to handle it and some speed. He’s the number one guy, so Butler needs to put him on an island to make things difficult for the Boys offense.
2. SS Patrick Chung Vs TE Jason Witten:
Jason Witten is the Cowboys best offensive weapon and Brandon Weeden’s favorite target, so taking him away will destroy the passing offense. Patrick Chung will single up against Witten and if he can handle him force Weeden to throw elsewhere. The Pats must take Witten away, and seeing he’s their best player, I’m sure they have a plan to do so.
3. TE Rob Gronkowski Vs LB Sean Lee:
What a matchup! Sean Lee is a good coverage linebacker who knows how to make plays and interceptions, so his matchup against Gronk will be a fun one to watch. The Brady and Gronk connection is working at an all time high right now that it’s hard to see anyone slowing it down, but if one team and one player can, it’s Sean Lee and the Cowboys. If Gronk beats their best cover linebacker, then he could be in for a big day.
