Okay, so another new thing I will be trying to do this season is the Patriots Gab very own power rankings each week.
I didn’t do one last week, so week two on, expect to see my take on the best teams in the NFL in order.
1. New England Patriots:
The Super Bowl Champions began the season the way they ended it, with a win. It was impressive and Brady was on point all night. They look great and they look like a team with the best QB and TE in the NFL.
2. St. Louis Rams:
Woa! I know, but last week if I had done a week one power rankings the Patriots and Rams would have been my number one and two picks, just like this week. If you have read my prediction for seeds in the NFC and division winners, then this pick would NOT surprise you. I’m very high on them this year. They have the best defensive line in the NFL and they’ve been a really good team for the past few seasons but no franchise QB held them back. Now, they have one in Nick Foles and he shredded that Seattle defense. If it wasn’t for three turnovers by the Rams, they would have blown the Seahawks out. This is one scary and dangerous team.
3. Green Bay Packers:
Aaron Rodgers, James Jones, and Randall Cobb equals very good. The gang is back and they are still one awesome team. Jones should never leave Green Bay again because nobody can make him look as good as Rodgers does. Packers are a solid team.
4. Arizona Cardinals:
Nice defense, nice offense, nice team. That sums up the first game and win for the Arizona Cardinals.
5. Dallas Cowboys:
They didn’t run great, but good enough and Romo had all day behind that offensive line. The defense was solid but could be better at stopping the run. I still believe in Dallas even without Dez Bryant.
6. Denver Broncos:
I’m not sure if it’s scary they won without Peyton playing good or scoring an offensive touchdown or if the offense is bad. Time will tell, but until this becomes a 5 week thing, I still believe Peyton will make the Broncos an AFC West division winner.
7. Kansas City Chiefs:
Alex Smith looked good and all he needs is his tight end. Smith is a solid QB, not great, but a solid one. The defense wasn’t bad either. Nice looking team.
8. Seattle Seahawks:
They’ve been to the Super Bowl two years in a row so I’ll give them the respect of being placed in the top ten. But, that wasn’t a pretty week one game for that offense or defense.
9. Indianapolis Colts:
They are the same team as they have always been. Offense is there and they will see better days than their week one loss to the Bills. The defense still can’t stop the run, but they will find ways to win a lot of regular season games.
10. San Diego Chargers:
Same as usual. Phillip Rivers bails out his team. They are good, but inconsistent.
11. Cincinnati Bengals:
They had everything going for them on Sunday: 1:00 pm game, playing the Raiders, and it was a regular season game. If it was at night against a decent team and the playoffs, they would have been blown out. They are good during the daylight hours.
12. Buffalo Bills:
Explosive. Electric. Fun. Fast. Run heavy. The five words to describe the Bills this year. They are smoke and mirrors.
13. New York Giants.
They were a stupid play call and bad decision away from beating Dallas in their own house Sunday night. They looked okay in defeat, stupid, but okay.
14. Miami Dolphins:
I didn’t love the struggle they had against the Washington Redskins, especially on offense, but they won, so I’ll stick them here.
15. Baltimore Ravens:
It’s the regular season so of course the Ravens will look terrible in a lot of games, and decent in others. They save their shine for the postseason.
16. Pittsburgh Steelers:
Offensively they are fine, but defensivley…… Yikes.
17. Atlanta Falcons:
They won Monday Night and defeated the over-hyped Eagles, but I didn’t love how they did it. They played good defense and that’s a good sign for Atlanta, but their offense committed dumb turnovers. Matt Ryan did his best to give the game away to the Eagles and with the offensive weapons he has, that’s inexcusable.
18. Detroit Lions:
I almost forgot about you guys. They are up and they are down. They are good and then they are not. On offense, not bad, but the defense gave up too many points. The Lions will find ways to lose more times then they will win.
19. Carolina Panthers:
Crappy offense, but thankfully for them, they played the Jaguars, who gift wrapped turnovers.
Their offense began rolling in the 2nd half, but nothing major. It was mostly check downs to the running backs. The rush offense was poor during the game. Their defense did okay, but not great. Basically, I shrugged my shoulders at the Eagles once the game was over.
21. Chicago Bears:
They weren’t bad against Green Bay. Good defensive effort, but Jay Cutler threw an interception to end their chances. It was the same ole story for the storied franchise.
22. San Franciso 49ers:
If you watched the game, then you heard very loudly how amazing they are from Trent Dilfer. Don’t fall for it, the Vikings are just that bad. The 49ers are in a tough division and I don’t believe they will fare well this year.
23. New Orleans Saints:
Saints… Saints…. I don’t know what to say. You have a franchise QB, but you are still falling from greatness. Pick it up guys, or don’t. I don’t really care, but you sucked it up week one. Lets see what week two has in store for you guys. I still think you can be good but prove it to me first.
24. Houston Texans:
J.J. Watt is dreaming of what it’s like to have a good QB.
25. Tennessee Titans:
Super Mariota proved me wrong. I didn’t think he was NFL ready and I’m still not convinced he’s the next best thing, but he was more NFL ready than Winston. Nice, actually great performance by the Titans.
26. New York Jets:
They played the Browns. That’s it. Who knows how truly good they are because they played and beat the Browns. The only thing I know is, they are not the absolute worst team.
27. Washington Redskins:
They really stink. We will see if Kirk Cousins can get any better as the season goes on.
28. Jacksonville Jaguars:
They still play like the Jacksonville Jaguars.
29. Minnesota Vikings:
You guys looked awful Monday night. Like wow, dog poop looks better than you guys did Monday Night. Come on now!
3o. Oakland Raiders:
Wow, you guys are still the Raiders. They looked terrible. Hopefully, Derek Carr will be okay and return soon, so maybe they can get better.
31. Cleveland Browns:
I mean Browns… Just wow.
32. Tampa Bay Buccaneers:
Horrible game for the Buccaneers on Sunday. Maybe things will get better, but right now they are the worst team in the NFL.
