NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will not be attending the NFL’s opening game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots, Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports tweeted.
Not really what we call shocking news.
The Patriots will be unveiling their fourth Super Bowl banner as well as playing their first game next Thursday.
The NFL told Mike Garafolo, Goodell will not be there on TNF because he “believes the focus should be on the game [and] festivities.”
I can’t blame him and I actually agree with the commissioner on this one. If Goodell is there, the cameras will probably pan to him every time New England and Pittsburgh score. They will talk about deflategate enough, I’m sure for the first 10 to 15 minutes, and bring it up when Brady comes into the game and when he throws his first touchdown. Goodell being there will only add more minutes wasted on deflategate talk.
Good call from him.
