The Patriots held their 12th practice of camp today and were back in shells for the fourth time.
Did Not Practice: WR Brandon LaFell, CB Logan Ryan, RB James White, CB Darryl Roberts, RB Dion Lewis, RB Travaris Cadet, LB Dekoda Watson, LB Dane Fletcher, LB Eric Martin, OL Marcus Cannon, OL Ryan Wendell, C Bryan Stork, OL Caylin Hauptmann, DE Rufus Johnson, DT Joe Vellano, DE Trey Flowers, LT Nate Solder, TE Jake Bequette, TE Scott Chandler, DT Chris Jones.
Julian Edelman and Aaron Dobson practiced during the early proportion, but disappeared for conditioning.
Tarell Brown, Brandon Bolden and Sealver Siliga practiced today after missing the preseason opener, but Brown left practice for some unknown reason late.
QB Tom Brady went 21-27 during team drills, including 6-7 in 7-on-7s and 15-20 during 11-on-11s.
He threw a 60 yard touchdown bomb to Matthew Slater, who beat Robert McClain. McClain was surprised by the speed of Slater, who got behind the DB for the touchdown. It was a “wow” play. Brady could have had a 50 yard touchdown pass to end his day on top of that awesome play, but Josh Boyce dropped the tough catch behind Malcolm Butler. He got behind Butler, but couldn’t finish the play. A big problem for Boyce.
QB Jimmy Garoppolo went 22-27 during team drills, including 7-9 with an interception during 7-on-7s and 15-18 during 11-on-11s. Jamie Collins was the guy who picked Garoppolo in the end zone on a nice leaping play. Garoppolo did hit WR Chris Harper for a deep left corner touchdown, a beautiful play to beat Jimmy Jean. He also tossed a touchdown to WR Jonathan Krause, who made a nice leaping grab.
QB Ryan Lindley went 6-12 with an interception during 11-on-11s. He threw the interception right to Bradley Fletcher.
TE Gronk had a great day, catching 10 passes and a touchdown. The touchdown was from Jimmy G. He caught 6 from Brady and 4 from Garoppolo.
Brian Tyms caught all 7 passes his way, a big day for him.
Malcom Brown and Ryan Groy had a fight today that led to being kicked out. A couple of punches were thrown. Brown ran a lap, but not Groy. Brown had a solid day overall.
Fletcher had a good day, added to his interception was a nice pass breakup.
LeGarrette Blount got to practice during 11-on-11s today after being hurt last week. A great sign.
The Patriots are off tomorrow but will practice Monday. It will be open to the media, but closed to the public.
The day was good for both sides of the ball, but especially the defense.
