The Patriots completed their 7th practice of training camp yesterday and were back in full pads for the 4th time.
Did Not Practice: QB Matt Flynn, WR Julian Edelman, WR Aaron Dobson, WR Matthew Slater, WR Brandon LaFell, RB Dion Lewis, RB Tyler Gaffney, LB Dane Fletcher, LB Darius Fleming, LB Chris White, OL Marcus Cannon, OL Ryan Wendell, OL Caylin Hauptmann, DT Joe Vellano, WR Brian Tyms, DT Chris Jones, DT Alan Branch.
Dobson was dealing with a slight hamstring injury and it doesn’t seem to be serious while Edelman is day-to-day with an ankle injury. LaFell was seen not wearing his walking boot which means he’s getting closer to returning.
QB Tom Brady handled most of the workload yesterday after receiving a light workload on Wedsenday night. He was excellent even though he was without Edelman, Dobson, LaFell, Tyms, and Chandler for most of the practice.
Brady was 31-41 during team drills, including 8-10 during 7-on-7s and 23-31 in 11-on-11s. He ended practice with 13 consecutive completions.
Boston Herald broke down who caught the passes from Brady and how many: Rob Gronkowski (five), Danny Amendola (five), Josh Boyce (five), Brandon Bolden (four), Brandon Gibson (four), Jonas Gray (two), LeGarrette Blount (one), Chris Harper (one), James White (one), Michael Hoomanawanui (one), James Develin (one) and Cadet (one).
Brady made an excellent throw to Amendola over two defenders 15-20 yards up the field.
QB Jimmy Garoppolo was 15-20 with an interception and a fumbled snap during team drills. He was 4-5 during 7-on-7s and 11-15 during 11-on-11s.
The safeties had a good practice. Tavon Wilson was the one who intercepted Garoppolo on a pass intended for TE Jake Bequette and registered a pass breakup. Patrick Chung also had a pass breakup.
WR Brandon Gibson made the most of Brady’s main targets sitting, catching four passes from the starter, continuing a nice streak.
WR Josh Boyce also made a few nice catches and continues to push for a role on the team.
Gronk beat Chung twice during 11-on-11s but Chung got him once with a nice pass breakup. Gronk also made a wow play against McCourty and Richards by jumping over both defenders and pulling down a Brady pass.
Amendola had another impressive practice, which he usually has great camps, hopefully this will carry on into the regular season.
The Pats will practice today at 1:45 pm.
