New England Patriots Super Bowl Champs

The Steelers want to play against Tom Brady’s perfect spiral week one

Be careful what you wish for Pittsburgh Steelers!

Big Ben has said he wants to play against Tom Brady and recently more Steelers have said they want to face Tom Brady week one when asked about the possibility of not playing against the 4x Super Bowl Champion.

“Yes, of course,” defensive end Cam Heyward said Saturday, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “The competitor in you wants to see the best team out there and why not beat Tom Brady in Gillette Stadium on a Thursday night game? We might have a better chance, but when you look at playing these teams and seeing them in the playoffs you want your guys to be ready to go into that situation. So if guys can prepare against playing against the best early, it’s going to help us later down the road.”

Steelers OL Marcus Gilbert agreed with his defensive teammate.

“I want to,” he said. “I mean, it’s Tom Brady and the opening game of the NFL! I hope he wins his appeal, it would be great for the NFL. It would be great for both of the [teams’] fans. We’ll get their best and they will see our best. The NFL and the fans want to see the best on the best and hopefully they’ll give it to us the first game.”

Cornerback Antwon Blake also chimed in on wanting to face Tom Brady’s spirals.

“That’s Steelers football,” said the cornerback. “We want to play against the best so we want the best out there. It’s definitely a challenge. We’ll stand up and be ready for it. It would be a great opportunity to play against a legendary quarterback like that.”

Back in May, Big Ben stated he wanted to face-off against Tom Brady on Thursday Night Football.

“He’s a guy, I’ve said for a long time, he’s the best in the business, and he proved it again last year winning his fourth [Super Bowl],” Roethlisberger said via ESPN. “If he’s not out there, it’s not the same. I have a lot of respect for him on the football field and some of the unbelievable things that he’s done. I guess we’ll wait and see what’s finally going to happen.”

I respect the Steelers for this mindset, to be the best you have to beat the best and they recognize Tom Brady as the best.
