The New England Patriots have signed LB Brandon Spikes to a one-year deal, according to Adam Schefter and Field Yates.
Brandon Spikes was placed on season-ending IR for his knee injury during the 2013 season, but reports suggested it was because he was late to practice. The Pats would not re-sign him and it wasn’t the prettiest of breakups, but seems to be water under the bridge now.
Spikes signed a one-year deal for the 2014 season with the Pats AFC East rivals, the Buffalo Bills. Spikes tweeted out how great it will be when the Bills would hand New England two losses and he went on to block a lot of Patriots fans.
The Bills chose not to re-sign him, but New England has decided to give him another chance and bring him back.
He and Belichick not seeing eye-to-eye was a big issue, but his play on the field never was.
Spikes recorded 54 tackles, 1 sack, 1 FF, and 3 passes defended in 16 games with the Bills last year.
He recorded 8 tackles against the Patriots during their first meet up last year.
The Patriots drafted Brandon Spikes in the 2nd round (62nd overall) of the 2010 draft.
He played in 51 games for the Patriots and recorded 286 tackles, 1 sack, 2 interceptions, 5 FF, and 13 passes defended.
Spikes played in 6 postseason games for the Patriots, recording 44 tackles, 1 FF, 1 interception, and 2 passes defended.
His best season was the 2012 season where he recorded 92 tackles, 1 sack, 5 FF, and 7 passes defended. He added 17 more tackles in the team’s 2 postseason games.
Brandon Spikes is one of the best run-stopping linebackers in the league. He’s added along with a great pass rusher and run stuffer Jerod Mayo and Dont’a Hightower and the do it all linebacker Jamie Collins.
The Patriots have the best linebacker core in the NFL heading into the 2015 season and I love this move.
I’m starting to like what the Pats have done this off-season including the draft. They took the Revis money and added a lot of solid defensive players. The money for one player has equaled out to a lot of good ones for the Patriots.
