The Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo agreed to a new contract with the team on Tuesday, according to several reports.
He will make $4.5 million this year with the chance for extra incentives. The deal also makes his two year deal now a one year deal with options on the next two years.
Mayo is 29 years old and has suffered two season-ending injuries during week 5 of the past two NFL seasons for the Patriots.
This is obviously a prove it deal for Mayo that he can not only stay healthy, but return to his pro bowl form before the past two injuries.
Mayo was going to be a $10.2875 million dollar cap hit, second highest behind QB Tom Brady. He was also going to make a base salary of $6.25 million this year.
The Pats linebackers will be Hightower, Collins, and Mayo along with DE/LB Jabaal Sheard giving them the best linebacking core in the NFL without a doubt.
