The Patriots improved to 10-3 on the season with a huge road win against the Chargers in San Diego tonight. Brady improved to 6-0 against Rivers in his career. The Patriots final score was 23-14.

The stars were the Patriots defense that completely shut down the Chargers offense tonight without their two key players in Dont’a Hightower and Chandler Jones.

The defense only allowed 1 offensive touchdown all night. Revis shut down the Chargers number one wide out, Keenan Allen, who only caught 1 pass for 3 yards. Rivers only threw to Allen twice tonight, the fewest targets toward Revis this season, and the fewest yards he’s given up this season. The Pats defense also shut down the tight ends and Browner did a good job against Floyd. He allowed one touchdown early in the game, in the 2nd I believe, but after that, locked him down.

Jamie Collins took over the Hightower role and did fabulous. He had 2 sacks against Rivers and the blitz got home almost every time tonight. Rob Ninkovich had a sack, and Siliga and Chris Jones combined for a sack. LB Akeem Ayers, who has been a sack specialist, got an interception tonight. The only one of the night by the Pats defense.

The defense kept the Patriots in the game all night despite two turnovers. One of those turnovers was a fumble by WR Brandon LaFell that the Chargers scooped and scored.

Brady also threw an interception right before half that killed the Patriots any chance at extra points and going ahead at halftime. It was a bad throw and off-balance. The Patriots first touchdown and the only touchdown through 3 quarters was set up by a Brandon Bolden block punt. Brady would hit Gronk for the touchdown and the Pats pulled within one, 13-14 at the half. The Pats would struggle big time on offense getting only one first down in the third, before Edelman broke a 69 yard catch and run to the house. That score would give the Pats a comfy lead at 23-14 in the 4th.

Outside of that broken play by Edelman, the Pats offense was lackluster, but finished strong.

Also, shout out to the Patriots fans, who outnumbered the Chargers fans. Loud cheers for when the Pats made a big play and won the game. Sounded like a home game.

The defense won this game for the Patriots and with this win, they remain the number one seed in the postseason.

Notable Game Stats:

QB Tom Brady: 28/44 for 317 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception.

WR Julian Edelman: 8 receptions for 148 yards and 1 touchdown.

TE Rob Gronkowski: 8 receptions for 87 yards and 1 touchdown.

LB Jamie Collins: 8 tackles and 2 sacks.

CB Darrelle Revis: 3 tackles, and only targeted twice.

Game MVP: CB Darrelle Revis.

He gets it because of the amazing job he did tonight against Rivers and Allen. Targeted just twice and only gave up one pass for 3 yards. Amazing. Taking away Rivers favorite guy went along way in helping New England win. The entire defense deserves all the praise for this game. Good Job guys!
