Patriots Vs Chargers: 3 Matchups To Watch

The Patriots are in San Diego already, practicing there, preparing for a SNF showdown with the Chargers.

The Pats are on to San Diego, and so are we.

Here are the 3 matchups to watch Sunday Night.

1. CB Logan Ryan Vs WR Eddie Royal: The Pats number 3 CB needs a good bounce back game after Ryan allowed too many big plays to the Packers number 3 guy Adams. The Pats number 3 guy, whether it’s Ryan, Dennard, Butler, or Arrington seems to struggle against the bigger number 3 guys, so whoever gets this task should do good. Browner and Revis will be tasked with Allen and Floyd and I expect them to do good, so it all comes down to this matchup. They can’t have another let down this weekend, heck not even this season.

2. WR Julian Edelman Vs CB Brandon Flowers: I think this will be the matchup and what a matchup it will be. Edelman is the guy, Brady goes to on third down and any other down. It’s his Welker, his new dependable guy. The thing is Edelman is coming into this game a little banged up with a thigh injury. Can Edelman beat Flowers? Tom Brady should have plenty of time to throw as the Chargers don’t get to the QB very often, so he should carve up this secondary. If Edelman gets free from Flowers a lot the Pats are scoring a ton.

3. DT Vince Wilfork Vs RB Ryan Mathews: This should be an easy matchup for the Patriots since the Chargers are not great at running and don’t do it often. Mathews is a good back, and had a touchdown against the Ravens, so he can be capable, but the Pats improved run defense should do fine. If they can make the Chargers a purely passing team, the Pats defense will have a good day.
