Officially on to Detriot!

The Lions will come into Boston to take on the New England Patriots, who is riding high after their big road win against the Colts. The Lions are coming off a low-scoring, very close loss to the Cardinals.

The Lions will bring the number one rank defense against the Patriots red hot offense, and this will be the toughest defense the Pats have faced all season.

Here is the must watch matchups:

1. DE Ezekiel Ansah Vs OL Nate Solder: Ansah has 5.5 sacks this season and is getting better. He’s a good pass rusher and a true defensive end. The Pats have to account for the Lions entire DL, but especially with Ansah and Suh. The Pats need one less thing to worry about on Sunday, so taking away Ansah will be welcomed for Brady. This will be the toughest test for the OL to date.

2. DT Ndamukong Suh Vs C Bryan Stork: Here we go. We couldn’t do a matchup post without mentioning Suh, the one man wrecking machine. He’s great, no getting around that, no matter what you think of him. He has 28 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and a FR this season. He provides pressure on the QB and disrupts plays like a madman. Suh gets moved around, but I wouldn’t doubt we see him against Pats rookie Center Stork from time-to-time because Stork’s a rookie. What a test for him and I really want to see this gem of a matchup. Also, Guards Wendell and Connolly will be tested by Suh and others. They have to hold up, last season they were more bad than good, this year more good than bad, but still, it’s Suh. They have to hold up because if the Lions can exploit one of them, they will, over and over. Taking away Suh will do damage to the pass rush, so the Pats have to hold up on Sunday.

3. CB Darius Slay Vs WR Brandon LaFell: I’m not sure if Slay or Mathis will line up on LaFell because they both have the size to. I figure Slay is faster than Mathis so he’ll end up with the speedy LaFell. LaFell had a quiet game against the Colts, but the Pats did do more running than passing. That will be different against the Lions, they will pass a lot more. The Lions secondary has been pretty good so if LaFell can get open and help out Brady then the Pats will be better for it. The Lions may put a CB on Gronk or a Safety, either way, others need to help the tight end out. Edelman needs to find openings and so does LaFell. Slay is their best guy, if LaFell can beat him, then the Pats should score just enough to squeeze out a win.
