Are you ready for Thursday night football? I’m ready to see the Patriots back out on the field, but I don’t like Thursday night games. I really don’t.

Anyways, the Pats play on a short week and they get the hated Jets inside Gillette Stadium. Last year on Thursday night it was a forgetful performance by both teams with New England coming out on top.

This year, the Pats are hoping for the same results but better effort.

Here are the 3 matchups that are must wins for New England.

1. DE Muhammad Wilkerson Vs RT Sebastian Vollmer: The Jets left defensive end will meet up with the Pats RT Vollmer on Thursday and boy this is a huge matchup. Wilkerson has 4 sacks through the first 6 games of the season. The Pats have to take care of the Jets defensive ends because that’s where the most pressure comes from. Wilkerson is their best pass rusher right now, followed closely by Sheldon Richardson, who has 3 sacks. Vollmer has been up and down this season, but he can’t afford a bad game Thursday. The Pats could be without two starters, so Vollmer has to bring his best because he will likely go up against Wilkerson on his own and it would help big time if he could handle him. A lot of the game is riding on the performances by both Vollmer and Solder.

2. CB Darrin Walls Vs WR Brandon LaFell: I’m guessing Walls will be on LaFell because Walls is a bit bigger than Adams on the other side. The Jets will look to use linebackers to bracket the Pats wide receivers. They will try to jam the wide outs at the line to help out the corners and give their pass rushers more time. The best thing LaFell can do is get off the line quickly, and the jams and get open. He has to help Brady out, and so does Edelman. The Jets corners are beatable for Edelman and LaFell, as long as they can get off of the jams. There is a chance they will see manĀ coverage and the Jets try to bracket Gronk, and then Wright will need to be more involved in the 2 tight end set and do some damage. The Jets struggle with tight ends and speedy wide outs. If LaFell gets bracketed then Edelman needs to get open and if Gronk is gets bracketed then the wide outs need to make them pay.

3. DT Damon Harrison Vs RB Shane Vereen: In the past two games the Jets have given up over 100 yards to Brandon Oliver (Chargers) and Ronnie Hillman (Broncos). The Pats could get a running game going if they want to. I think a good running game will help the offense this Thursday. I don’t know which running back we will see the most, but Vereen is the starter, so hopefully he can run on the Jets. Harrison, Wilkerson, Richardson, and all the DL are struggling against the run right now, so the Pats should try to take advantageĀ of that.

Who are the 3 matchups you’re watching?
