The Patriots lost to the New York Giants in NJ last night in both team’s final preseason game of 2014, 16-13.

Jimmy Garoppolo got the start and played the entire game. Brady made an appearance as the field goal holder. He’s the team’s backup holder. Mallett did not play.

Jimmy Garoppolo had an okay night, and has earned the backup spot behind Brady, but he showed he’s not ready to be a full time starter.

Garoppolo finished the night 16 of 24 for 284 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

“It could have went better,” Garoppolo said. “There were definitely some things that we messed up on, fixable things, and things to learn from when you watch the film.”

Garoppolo said it was a very good experience.

“It’s one of those things I hope I look back on in a couple years and really learn a lot from it,” Garoppolo said. “Just take it and try to take the next step now. Now I know what a normal week is like for preparing to start and everything like that. It will only help me going forward.”

His one touchdown went to Aaron Dobson, who made his preseason debut last night.

Dobson’s 33 yard touchdown catch from Jimmy Garoppolo was an impressive one. The receiver was facing man coverage and ran up the field, with the defender all over him, Dobson gains an inch and falls down making a great catch. Dobson would finish the night with 3 catches for 57 yards and one touchdown.

It was a long process from the offseason, just sitting out, staying in the film room, starting to run, getting back in shape and all that,” Dobson said“It was a pretty tough process, but getting back on the field feels real good to be out there with my teammates.

Dobson said he’s not 100% yet, but it’s getting there.

“I feel like everything is coming,” Dobson said. I can’t say everything is back. It’s my first game back, so I’ve still got to feel everything out. I’m still getting my confidence, just building my confidence and growing as much as I can.”

Less than two days, Wright was on the field and playing for the Patriots in their final preseason game. The tight end has had little time to study the playbook, but looked good on the field. Wright caught four passes for 43 yards.

“It’s a great opportunity,” Wright said. “This is a great organization led by great coaches. I’m just taking it one day at a time. It’s still early. I’ve got a lot to learn, and I’m just ready to go.
