Tom Brady will sit out tonight’s game and Ryan Mallett will get the start, according to Boston Herald’s Jeff Howe.

Since, becoming the starting QB in 2002, Brady only sat out 3 preseason openers, 2005, 2008, and 2011.

Mallett has had his best camp ever this year and will get plenty of reps to show other teams he can be a legit starting QB in the NFL.

Tom Brady was on fire all week during the joint practice with the Redskins so he doesn’t need more reps in the first preseason game. We will have to wait another week to see Brady to Edelman, Amendola, and LaFell.

I’m excited to see Mallett get this many reps though in a preseason game because I’m ready to see what he can do and hopefully get a trade out of it!
