Tonight’s the night Football is back for the New England Patriots and the Washington Redskins.

Granted, it’s only the preseason, but preseason football is better than none.

The Patriots will take on the Redskins tonight at 7:30 p.m.

The preseason isn’t really for veterans, especially guys like Tom Brady, you’ll see what they’re bringing this season when the first official game begins. The preseason is more for the backups and guys trying to make the team, and that guy that breaks out and gets the starting role.

I personally enjoy watching the backups and new guys play to see how they look and if they have a shot to make the team. I have five players that are a MUST watch tonight.

5. Duron Harmon and the safety battle – There is a safety battle going on even though Harmon is in full control. We get to see him in action tonight along with the other safeties who are trying to dethrone him.  Patrick Chung is back and Tavon Wilson is battling for a spot on the team. The guys who could make a push to make the team and compete is Travis Hawkins and Daxton Swanson. I’am really interested in seeing the last two guys I mention. Aside from Harmon, they’re all battling for a spot on the team, and maybe even the starting role. It’ll be a fun battle to watch.

4. James White – The RB the Patriots drafted in the 4th round is a must watch. He’s been making plays throughout camp so to see what he can do in a game atmosphere will be fun.

3. Brian Tymes – He’s the newly signed WR who has great chemistry with the backup Quarterbacks, especially Ryan Mallett. He has routinely made big plays throughout camp. He could not only make the team, but have playing time if he has a great preseason. I really can’t wait to watch his connection with Ryan Mallett tonight.

2. Justin Jones – The big tight end will get a lot of reps tonight, thanks to Gronk, Hoomanawanui, and Williams most likely not playing tonight. The big tight end has had drops and big catches throughout camp so it’ll be interesting to see how well he looks tonight. Plus, the Pats really need to find that tight end that can catch well enough to add a legitimate 2nd tight end.

1. Ryan MallettMallett has earned big hype through camp by having his “best camp ever”. Fans will be watching him tonight, and so will other teams. Who knows, maybe the Texans will pay attention, so with pressure can Mallett live up to the hype? Tonight we will find that out. Reports all day have been that Mallett will get the start tonight, so he’ll play against the Redskins starting defense and have a chance to prove himself.
