Peyton Manning didn’t want to be paid more than Tom Brady

Peyton Manning, John Elway

According to Peyton Manning’s agent Tom Condon, Peyton Manning did not want to be paid more than Tom Brady when he hit the free agency market in 2012.

Andrew Brandt shared Mr. Condon’s story on MMQB.com.

The agent wanted a 12 team bidding war, but the hall of fame QB only wanted to visit four teams and wanted to know how much Tom Brady was making per year.

Manning was told Brady was making $18 million a year, Manning instructed that Denver’s offer was not to exceed that.

Brandt explains what happens next:

The Broncos’ opening offer was $19.4 million a year. Condon phoned to tell Manning, who was incensed: “I told you I didn’t want to make more than Brady!”

Condon apologized, hung up and called Manning’s wife, who responded, “I’ll take care of it,” and coaxed Manning to accept the Broncos’ offer.
