Johnny Football studying Brady films with former Pats QB

NCAA Football: Texas A&M at Alabama

Johnny Football really wants to be the number one pick in the NFL draft by the Houston Texans.

He even went as far to tell the world he is watching Tom Brady’s films with former Pats QB Kevin O’ Connell, who played behind Brady and under O’Brien in 08.

The Texans head coach is Bill O’Brien, former Pats coordinator from 2008 – 2011.

“I get the best of both worlds — to learn from one of the greatest (quarterbacks) of all time, and at the same time, see and learn what the coach I want to be playing for is doing in certain situations,” Manziel told The Houston Chronicle about Brady and O’Brien.

“In Indianapolis, I want to be able to sit there and him draw a play on the board and be like, ‘Coach, that was your third-and-12 play from the Super Bowl. You called that on the right hash from the 42-yard line driving in to score to win the game,’” Manziel said.

“I want to blow his lid off when I’m in that situation.”

It’s smart for Manziel to study the kind of offense that O’Brien will be running in Houston. However, I don’t know why he needs to study Tom Brady when his play is nothing like Brady. He needs to watch Collin Kaepernick’s QB tape. His style of play won’t change in the NFL. He is a runner and that won’t change, but he can adapt to it like Kaepernick. Kaepernick is an excellent runner with great speed and he uses it to set up the pass. Johnny Football has excellent speed too, and needs to learn how to make that work in the NFL like Kaepernick has. Johnny Football isn’t nearly as big as Kaepernick is and will need to avoid as many shots as possible from the defenses. The biggest thing for Football to learn is how to read defenses and go through his progressions.

Manziel also made a statement that the Texans would be making the worst decision ever if they pass on him.

A few Texans superstars have given out their ideas on what the Texans should do with the number one pick. JJ Watt thinks it would be great to draft Jadeveon Clowney while Andre Johnson thinks they should trade out of the pick.

There were also rumors that Bill O’Brien really likes UCF QB Blake Bortles in the upcoming draft. I agree with him on Bortles, and I think he would be an excellent fit in their scheme.

Who knows what will happen in the madness of the May draft.
