Could Danny Amendola be released?

The offseason has already begun for the New England Patriots and the rumors are already running wild!

First rumor is that Danny Amendola could be a cap casualty for the Patriots after a disappointing first year with the team.

Amendola signed a 5 year deal worth $28.5 million just last year with $10 million in guarantee money. His $3 million base salary in 2014, $2 million is guaranteed if he’s on the roster at 4 p.m. ET on March 11 – first day of league year, but if he’s a post June 1 release then the Pats could spread the cap  ($1.2 million in 2014 and $3.6 million in 2015).

I don’t think the Patriots will release him after signing him to a big deal last year. I think they like him too much and believe in his potential next year to cut him.

Amendola started off hot in the Buffalo game but was injured in the same game and missed several weeks and it seemed to throw off the rhythm between Brady and him. When Amendola returned, they never got back in the groove except for 2 more games. It was disappointing to say the least but Amendola is a good player, but he’s gotta stay healthy.

I feel like I say that about too many Patriots players these days.

Danny needs to go. He was a bust from the word go. I don’t know what the heck they were thinking in signing him. Pay him his remaining money and be done with it. Go get Larry Fitzgerald or Antone Bolden or someone of that caliber. The team needs a long ball threat. The rookies of last year are not going to fill that void. They are not that caliber of a Fitzgerald or Cruz, even when they have some playing time under their belt. The reason the Pats have not won a championship since 2004 is because the transition of players from 2008- present has been a disaster. First it was an enemic defense, now it’s the offense. The Patriots are a good team, but not a great team as they were in years past. They have the talent to make it to the playoffs or even to the SB, but come up losers because of the obvious pitfalls of the team.

I agree that New England needs to go get a big guy wide receiver that’s proven good.

Outside of the Moss years, I don’t know why they don’t want to surround Brady with the kind of talent Manning has!
