The New England Patriots will face the Denver Broncos tomorrow at 3:00 pm inside Mile High Stadium.
The Patriots are going into this game as underdogs once again, second time this season against the Denver Broncos.
That favors New England. Brady and company play better as underdogs, and Brady play better when the other QB is getting all the limelight and he plays better angry.
Denver will have the home field advantage though.
I break down some other keys to a New England victory.
Establish the run
- New England’s offense is better when they run the ball and do not give up on it easily. If they run the ball and stick to it then they will be fine tomorrow. The Broncos run defense is a stout one but the Patriots should test it and try to use it to set up the play action which could be huge for the Patriots tomorrow. The Broncos pass defense isn’t very good and if New England protects Tom Brady then New England should move the ball fairly easy.
If the Patriots can get the run going they can control the clock, keep Manning on the sidelines, and score points then they will win the game.
New England just has to play their game on offense.
Play Physical Defense
- Here is the tough part, slowing down Peyton Manning. You’re not going to stop him, but you can slow him down and that’s the key for the defense. They need to make enough stops in the first half and in the second half to win the game. They don’t have to stop them every time or hold this offense to 10 points but if they can get just enough stops each half they can win this game.
The Patriots will play man to man defense and press coverage against these receivers because this is a finesse team so to slow down a finesse team, you get physical with them. The Patriots corners will look to jam the Broncos receivers at the line and rough them up all through their routes tomorrow. They gotta get physical with the big Julius Thomas. He’s the Broncos X – Factor tomorrow. The Patriots didn’t have to deal with him the first time and yet his backup Jacob Tamme had a good game against the Patriots defense. That can NOT happen tomorrow. Thomas is a lot like Gronk and is a great player, a great deep threat, and a great redzone threat. The Patriots will have their work cut out for them tomorrow with him. They should take a look at how the Jets slowed down Gronk his rookie year in the postseason, and how the few teams have in the past. They could also play him like the Seahawks played Jimmy Graham. There is an answer to this problem I just don’t know if the Patriots have the solution to it.
I give up on the pass rush, we don’t have one, not a consistent one anyways. The Patriots make their living on good coverage and pressuring the Quarterbacks on blitzes which New England will use a few times tomorrow.
Protect Tom Brady
- The Patriots offensive line had struggled this season but did well against the Colts. They have to have a repeat performance tomorrow against the Broncos. The Broncos had success getting to Phillip Rivers last Sunday. New England has to protect Brady and give him time to throw, if they do, then the Patriots will score.
The game is won or lost here – protect Brady, and the Patriots will win.
