Tom Brady, who was held out of practice Wednesday due to an illness, was back at the New England Patriots’ facility Thursday, and the expectation is he will return to practice later in the morning.
Brady’s absence Wednesday marked the first practice he missed all season. Long snapper Danny Aiken also missed the session because of illness.
The only quarterback on the field, backup Ryan Mallett served as primary signal-caller and also emulated Peyton Manning for the defense. “It was fun,” Mallett said Wednesday about taking first-team reps. “It was a lot of fun. I like getting to play in our offense.”
In a lighthearted moment Wednesday, Bill Belichick, upon being asked to recall the last time Brady surprised him, replied, “This morning.” When asked what had surprised him, the coach said: “We’ll keep that between Tom and I.”
