According to a report from the NFL Network, the Patriots have given permission for the Browns to interview Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels for their head coaching job.
It’s not surprising that McDaniels is a leading candidate for the job considering his relationship with Browns general manager Mike Lombardi, and GM Joe Banner is a big McDaniels supporter.
Cleveland wanted to interview McDaniels last year but McDaniels removed himself from the conversation. McDaniels didn’t want to move his wife and four small children again so quickly after returning to New England.
Patriots Bill Belichick declined to talk about the situation.
‘’I’m not going to get into any of that. The procedures are in place with the league and so forth,” he said. ”Any comments on that I don’t think are appropriate to come from me so I won’t make any.’’
On Monday, QB Tom Brady expressed he wants McDaniels to stay.
“I hope he doesn’t go anywhere. I’d love him to coach me for the rest of my life,’’ Brady told WEEI’s Dennis & Callahan morning show. ‘’That’s just the way it is. He’s one of my best friends and I love having him.”
