The Top 10 Patriots Moments of 2013

Happy New Years Eve!

2013 is almost over and I thought I would count down my top 10 Patriots moment of 2013 to celebrate!

10. Tom Brady signs a new deal to stay in Boston for the remainder of his career.

Tom Brady signed a three-year, $27 million contract extension with the Patriots back in February  that will keep him with New England through the 2017 season, and most likely the remainder of his career.

Tom Brady did not want a huge deal to give the Patriots plenty of cap space to build a team around him.

PatriotsNation rejoice at what their QB did and the fact he will remain with the team for his career.

9. Patriots sign WR Danny Amendola in free agency

The Patriots had eyes on Amendola for a year and they nabbed him in the 2013 offseason.

Hours after Wes Welker left for Denver, the Patriots quickly signed Danny Amendola to a 5 year, $31 million dollar deal.

Amendola’s durability was questioned constantly after he inked the deal with New England but has avoided any season – ending injuries this year, making it a great year for Amendola!

Amendola recorded 54 catches for 633 yards and 2 touchdowns.

8. LeGarrette Blount goes for 334 all purpose yards.

Blount set the record for New England with his all purpose yards against the Bills.

It was the last game of the season and New England was looking to secure a first – round bye and Blount made sure they would.

He rushed for 189 yards and 2 touchdowns and returned kickoffs for 144 yards.

The Patriots traded RB Jeff Demps and a 7th rd draft pick for LeGarrette Blount in the offseason.

7. Patriots resigned Aqib Talib

Fans wanted Talib back and now reflecting on his 2013 season, it was a huge move. Talib came back to New England for a 1 year, 5 million dollar deal. He wanted to prove he can stay healthy and be a team player, both he has achieved very well. He will be huge in free agency in 2014 if New England doesn’t hurry up and resign him again.

Talib has enjoyed a Pro Bowl year and has been the best corner on the Patriots team. He had 13 passes defended and 4 interceptions this year.

6. Patriots route the Ravens

The Patriots needed a big win against their hated rivals the Baltimore Ravens and boy did they get it.

The Patriots were underdogs on the road in Baltimore and after the beating the Ravens gave the Patriots in January in Foxborough, the Patriots were itching for payback.

The Patriots won 41 – 7 and Logan Ryan came away with two interceptions and polished off a nice rookie season.

5. Julian Edelman goes over 100 catches and 1,000 yards receiving

Edelman has become the new favorite wide receiver in New England, and he capped off his breakout year by going over 100 catches, and 1,000 receiving yards in a win over the Bills.

Edelman was in Welker’s shadow during those years and started off behind Amendola on the depth chart, but now has emerged as the number one guy for Tom Brady. He has been Brady’s go to guy this season and has won the hearts of PatriotsNation everywhere. He did what many thought nobody could, made New England forget number 83.

4. The Patriots comeback win over Cleveland

It was an improbable comeback, but the Patriots have been use to those in 2013.

The Patriots were down 12 points in the 4th with just over a minute to play. With 1:01 left, Tom Brady threw a 2 yard touchdown to Julian Edelman to make it a 1 score game. The Patriots then recovered an onside kick at the Cleveland 40 yard line. Brady went deep to Josh Boyce and got a pass interference call and then Brady hit Amendola for the game – winning touchdown.

3. The Return of Gronk

The return of Gronk was a big story line in 2013 and it finally happened in October against the Jets. Gronk had a great game too, catching 8 passes for 114 yards. The excitement for Gronk’s return was huge in Boston but sadly it only lasted 6 more games before he was injured for the season against the Browns.

2. Tom Brady throws game winning touchdown with 5 seconds left to beat the Saints

“Unicorns, Show Ponies, Where’s the Beef?!?!”

It was amazing! That is all I can say about that game!

The Patriots were losing to the Saints, and after a failed 4th down conversion on their own 3o yard line and a Tom Brady interception, the Patriots looked done. But the Saints couldn’t eat up the clock and left Brady 1 minute and 13 seconds left to move the offense, and that he did. With no timeouts Brady drove the field and hit Kenbrell Thompkins for the game winning 17 yards touchdown pass with 5 seconds left.

The crowd that stayed exploded and fans at home went crazy and Scott Zolak’s radio reaction was the best of 2013.

1. Tom Brady comes back to beat Peyton Manning

Of course this would be number one.

Brady’s rival Peyton Manning came to Gillette Stadium looking for a huge win over the Patriots. The Patriots looked like a team that would hand the Broncos a win when they went to half trailing 24 – 0. But in the 3rd Tom Brady put the team on his back with the help of minitron and Gronk and led the greatest comeback in Patriots history.

The game would go to overtime where a punt would hit a Broncos player and the Patriots would recover and kick the game winning field goal, 34 – 31.
