The New England Patriots will be playing host to the visiting Cleveland Browns this Sunday.
The 4 – 6 Browns have lost 3 straight and are looking for a much needed win this Sunday against their former head coach Bill Belichick.
The Patriots on the other hand have won 2 straight and are looking to keep pace with the Denver Broncos for a first seed in the playoffs.
The Browns have one explosive player on the offense, a receiver whose name was mention regularly with the Patriots before the trade deadline.
In my personal opinion I would have LOVED the Patriots trading for Josh Gordon but the trade never came to fruition and now the Pats will try to stop him this Sunday.
And that brings me to 3 players to watch this weekend.
1. CB Aqib Talib
– Talib will be facing Josh Gordon this Sunday – a very good wide receiver. Gordon is coming off back to back games which he had over 200 yards receiving and 3 touchdowns in the 2 games combined.
Gordon has 1,249 yards receiving this year with 7 touchdowns. He is having a pro bowl season and is single handily carrying my fantasy football team.
Gordon will be a great test for Talib and the matchup will be very interesting.
In their last meeting in 2010 the Browns surprisingly whopped the Patriots to the tune of 34 – 14.
This year Browns team is capable of scoring points at any given moment like and if Talib can’t slow down Gordon then the Browns have a great chance of winning the game.
The most important player on defense will be Talib and his ability to slow down Gordon.
2. WR Danny Amendola
– It will be interesting to see if Joe Haden is put on Amendola or Edelman. If the Browns are smart they would stick Haden on Edelman because of how hot Edelman has been the past two weeks. And this season Edelman has looked like a better receiver than Amendola.
So if Haden is on Edelman look for Amendola to have a big day because I don’t see anyone else shutting down Amendola for the Browns.
If the number one corner on the Browns is on Edelman than Amendola better do a good job of getting open because he will then be relied on more than the past two weeks and will need to help the Pats passing attack and help the Patriots get a needed win.
3. LB Dane Flecther
– The Patriots will be focusing on shutting down Josh Gordon this Sunday with Talib so that will leave tight end Jordan Cameron to create havoc on the Patriots defense. Cameron has shown the ability to be an absolute stud and the Pats have shown problems stopping opposing team’s tight ends. If Hightower or Spikes is tasked with the job of covering Cameron then the Pats will lose that matchup every time. There is NO way they can stop Cameron. He is faster and a real talent so putting the slow, and horrible coverage linebackers of Hightower and Spikes on him is just asking to be torched.
Maybe New England starts the game with Hightower and Spikes in coverage but probably won’t finish it that way.
The Pats used Flecther and Collins in the Denver game to control the pass heavy Broncos team so the Pats would be wise to use Flecther in coverage against Cameron.
The Pats need Hightower and Spikes to stop the run but they will need to contain Cameron this Sunday and Flecther could be a big part of that plan.
