The New England Patriots rallied for the second straight week for the win over the Houston Texans in Houston.
The Texans got on the scoreboard first after two big completions from Keenum to Andre Johnson and then RB Ben Tate took it 8 yards in for the TD. After that Tom Brady was picked off when he was throwing to Rob Gronkowski and the Texans turned it into 3 points. With just over a minute left in the first quarter Brady hit Gronkowski on a great TD catch 23 yards out to cut into the Texans lead 10 – 7.
The Texans would get inside of New England’s territory but Logan Ryan would pick off a Case Keenum pass intended for DeAndre Hopkins. The Patriots would go on a long drive but kicker Stephen Gostkowski would miss a field goal attempt from 55 yards out.
The Texans would march up the field and Ben Tate would run it in from 20 yards out and the Texans would go up 17 – 7 and take the lead to halftime.
To start the third the Patriots would move the ball quickly up the field and cap it off with a 1 yard TD run by James Devlin to cut into the Houston lead, 14 – 17.
The Patriots would quickly get the ball back and drive it up the field where Shane Vereen would catch a 9 yard Tom Brady TD pass. The Pats would take the lead, 21 – 17 early 3rd.
The Texans would answer right back with a long drive of their own and QB Case Keenum would scramble it in for the TD from 5 yards out. The Texans went up 24 – 21 over the Patriots late in the 3rd.
Brady would spread the ball around and get the Pats right back up the field and early 4th LeGarrette Blount would run it in for a TD 7 yards out. The Patriots to take the lead again, 28 – 24 over the Texans.
Case Keenum would connect on a deep ball to DeAndre Hopkins for 66 yards and then Ben Tate would run it in for his 3rd score of the day 10 yards out and the Texans would take the 31 – 28 lead over New England with 11:39 left.
The Pats would get into field goal range before stalling out and Stephen Gostkowski would connect on a big field goal from 53 yards out and the score was 31 – 31 with 7 minutes to play.
The Texans would throw 3 straight in completions and punt the ball back to the red hot offense of the Patriots. The Patriots would then get it up the field and stall again and Gostkowski would connect on another 53 yard field goal with 3 minutes to play.
The Texans would go 4 downs but fail and turn the ball over with just a minute to play to the Patriots. The Pats would kneel and take the 34 – 31 win over the Houston Texans.
Stephen Gostkowski showed off how clutch he can be with two big field goals in the 4th that was 50+ yards out.
New England had a letdown to start the game and Houston gave them all they could handle but at the end of the day it wasn’t enough and New England escaped with a win.
